Dear Parents,
Welcome to Ysgol Llanbedr Church in Wales School. Ysgol Llanbedr is part of the Vale of Clwyd Federation of Ysgol Trefnant and Ysgol Llanbedr.
Our Federation Vision Statement is:
"Empowering pupils to work together, reaching their full potential, guided by love and faith".
Our Motto is:
"Gweithio gydda'i gilydd, Dysgu am byth". / "Working together, Learning for Life".
We hope you are all safe and well. May we take this opportunity to emphasise that you are always welcome to visit the school to discuss any aspects of school life. If you are in the process of choosing a school for your child, you are most welcome to visit and see our wonderful facilities for yourselves. We look forward to meeting you. We hope you enjoy looking at our website, which provides a 'snapshot' of school life. Hopefully you will find it interesting and informative.
We extend a warm welcome to your child to Ysgol Llanbedr and hope that they will have many happy years here. The Governors, parents, teachers and pupils look forward to establishing a close working partnership with you.
Ysgol Llanbedr is a co-educational primary school based in the village of Llanbedr. We are a English 1st language school but feel strongly about promoting Welsh as a 2nd language.
At Ysgol Llanbedr we strive to create and maintain a family environment which is caring and stable, in which pupils can develop as confident individuals who are aware of the needs and feelings of others. High expectations are set for both academic standards and standards of behaviour. We fully understand how precious your child is to you. Their health, wellbeing and happiness is our utmost priority. As a school we endeavour to celebrate every child and ensure they reach their full potential during their time here.
As a Church in Wales Controlled School, with the assistance of the Diocesan Education Officer and the village Church we aim to develop a Christian based ethos, with regular opportunities for worship, also providing each child with education of the highest quality which reflects the requirements of the individual; creating an atmosphere in which each child can experience success and a sense of achievement and fostering the natural inquisitiveness of children and their desire to learn.
The staff and Governors will endeavour to implement the National Curriculum requirements to the full and, within the confines of the school budget, provide a broad and balanced curriculum. We also offer a range of extra-curricular activities, where pupils have the opportunity to experience and develop their talents.
At Ysgol Llanbedr there is a very supportive PTA and home/school links are maintained through regular newsletters, Class Dojo, parents’ evenings and various events.
Parents are welcome at any time to discuss children’s progress with class teachers or head teacher, after school or by a prior appointment.
We hope that you will choose to bring your child(ren) to our school and that they will be very happy at Ysgol Llanbedr and take advantage of the many opportunities offered.
Mrs S Dick
Headteacher
Ysgol Llanbedr is a small rural English language Church of Wales primary school. It was founded in 1829 and moved just outside the village to the current site in 1864. It is ideally situated in open countryside with beautiful surroundings overlooked by Moel Famau and Moel Fenlli in the heart of the Vale of Clwyd. We have excellent outdoor facilities which include a large playing field, Multi-use Games pitch, wildlife and reflection gardens, a school vegetable garden and a dedicated Forest Schools area. We make extensive use of all of these facilities to extend and enhance our children's learning and wellbeing.
Directions to school: The school is easily accessible from the village of Llanbedr. Follow the road in a northerly direction beyond the village itself before taking the first turning on your right to follow the signpost for Hirwaen. The school is situated approximately 300 yards on the left with its own car park just beyond the main building. The main entrance is located at the front of the school. Please follow the signs from the main car park.
Our semi-rural position provides an ideal learning environment for the Primary School child. The original stone building dates back to 1864 and attests to the school’s long tradition of service to the local community.
The accommodation consists of two junior classrooms and library areas and a large Foundation Learning classroom with a covered veranda allowing access to the outdoor area. The Foundation Learning environment also includes a nurture room/library. The old school house houses the staff room, which is also used for nurture and interventions and a PPA room for staff admin. The School Office is near to the main entrance and there is a kitchen for cookery. We recently had a new kitchen extension built. All school meals are cooked on-site by our school cook. Munchkins Childcare setting is situated in the cabin across from the Foundation Learning environment. The school combines the best of the modern with the traditions of the past. This, together with a large playing field situated at the rear of the school, with sports pitches and a Forest School area, provides a bright, pleasant and secure working environment. The PTA has helped to maintain the Adventure Playground and school garden over the years.
The School is a Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled Primary School which has, over the years, maintained its link with the Parish Church. The Rector is a regular visitor to the school and the PCC elects Foundation Governors with the Rector being ex-officio.
Collective Worship is consistent with our Anglican Foundation and we strive to develop a sense of the spiritual in our pupils. Whilst the teaching is in no way ‘denominational’, it is underpinned by those Christian values which see education as the pursuit of truth, and each individual as being of ‘unique’ worth.
Where the school attends Church parents are notified in advance and may be invited to join the school on such occasions.
In a normal school day, the Infants will receive 4 hours 50 minutes teaching time, and the juniors 5 hours 10 minutes teaching time.
The school at present is organised into three classes: Nursery & Reception, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6. Pupils learn in mixed age and ability groups with a mixture of teaching styles being employed as appropriate – group teaching, class teaching and individual work where needed. Where appropriate the classes above may be taught together, eg, for more practical areas of learning, Y3-6 may be taught in a mixed group. Pupils with Additional Learning Needs are also catered for.
One of the great advantages of the village school is the small numbers within year groups, which enable children and staff to work closely together to promote that family atmosphere which we believe is important in the creation of a real learning environment.
At present is approximately 23 pupils to 1 member of staff in the Foundation Learning Area (Infants – 3-7 years), with Nursery having a lower pupil/staff ratio. The teacher/pupil ratio in the Juniors (8-11 years) averages 1:12 for most sessions. On occasion the two classes are taught together with an average teacher/pupil ratio of 1:23.
